Breeding Regulations

Determination of the Breeding Value and Selection ~ Article 8

  1. The breeding value of all horses used within the scope of the breeding target is determined. The breeding value is evaluated with the aid of economically important features corresponding to the breeding direction and is subdivided into the two parts exterior and performance. The complete determination of the breeding value is given when the two parts of the breeding value, exterior and performance, have been determined.
  2. In addition to the breeding requirements with respect to descent, exterior and performance, it is required of the horses to be healthy and fertile. Here, the general health as well as the sexual and hereditary health are to be taken into consideration.
  3. On the basis of the results of the evaluation of the exterior as well as the performance tests and other available information, the breeding values are determined. If breeding values of relatives are available, these are to be taken into consideration accordingly. The breeding value provides the bases of determination for the following selection. The decision in the selection indicates which horses are considered desirable for the stock in view or a promotion of the breed. This is documented by an entry of the selected horses into certain sections of the studbook as well as by the issuance of prices for performance (e.g. awards).
  4. The results of the determination of the breeding values and the selection are to be published.
